Pool

Initially an experiment in digital video, Pool evolved from the recorded footage of local artist Bernadine McDougall to become a dreamy, slightly surreal work of Flash interactivity.

The user is invited to trail their mouse through an area of the screen which then snaps to life with manipulated sequences of watery image and sound. It seems to create a need to have all the water moving at once, trialing the dependent relationship between participant and art work that directs our experience of interactive art like it.

The end result is an evocative work that we can lose ourselves in, as if we are staring out to sea in the direction of Rangitoto island, an aquatic afterthought.
