Fresh Icons A collaborative work that redefines artistic labour in new and complicated ways, Fresh Icons emerged from a partnership between Thomas Swiss and Motomichi Nakamura who sought to develop a piece that could reveal language in fragments, a bit at a time, but all in the same scene. Beginning with a poem by Swiss, they developed the notion of surveillance cameras and a single figure that would be tracked from four different angles. The words of the poem were then cut up into fragments and redeployed as speaking parts. Each time the viewer clicks on one of four panes of the piece, a different part of the poem is spoken or revealed. |
