Aphid

This month for Window Online, Auckland-based artist and lecturer Simon Cuming presents Aphid, a sound work. Responding to Richard Killeen's "Red Insects, Blue Triangles" wall work opposite Window's foyer space, Cuming takes the two iconographic forms and translates them, dissolving the visual into field recordings and sine waves, tone generators and modulation systems.

Permeating multiple spaces and forms, Aphid will shift from digital MP3s on the Window website through to noise and packaged media in the physical gallery space. And, like it's namesake, the work will be intentionally 'leaked', virally spreading through peer-to-peer filesharing networks, torrent sites, and streaming audio servers, gaining authenticity through interaction and distribution.
